The picture below has been floating around the internet for a long time, used as a meme for Tesla "predicting the future". I prefer to view the quote as showing the genius that was Nikola Tesla, the vision he had for technology and the future far beyond the constraints in the era he was part of.

What would Tesla think of the virtual classroom? What are our thoughts regarding it?

It is easy to take things for granted in the age we live in, the internet, superfast broadband and instant communication. Virtual classrooms are a tool in a huge arsenal of technology that is available to us and it is often overlooked, not understood or something to fear.

If we imagine a world where the internet does not exist, communication over vast distances is difficult or impossible but someone has the ability to run a virtual classroom, it would be a super power! The ability to connect people, share ideas, expand knowledge from each other and become better.

I would like us all to take a step back from the million thoughts regarding learning interventions, outcomes, impact and the likes.

Let's appreciate the amazing tool we have, the power it has even if we have only just started to scratch the surface of what it can do.

Comment below where you think the future of virtual classrooms are going, what aspects of it are amazing right now and maybe even something that Tesla would find amazing.

  • I think:

VC will only gain more tools for interactivity making it a more engaging and a greater personal experience.

It is amazing to me that right now, you can have multiple people all learning together, communicating simultaneously via the chat window whilst learning can still continue, it does not disrupt the learning but actually enhances it.

Tesla would be disappointed that virtual classrooms were not changing scientific or social opinions on a mass world wide scale, with the ability to connect people with differing viewpoints and letting them share and learn from each other.
