What are some of the telephony/audio issues you have experienced in virtual classroom/webinar sessions (or even just online meetings)?

To address my own question... on the Training Journal #TJwow video discussion today we had some audio lag where there were gaps between speakers. This was mostly due to a slower internet connetion that someone couldn't do a lot with in the moment.Â
The key way we dealt with that was to know about it, and be patient! The other thing too was that we couldn't have too much of a "discussion" with the natural back and forth. Instead I treated it more like a CB radio conversation, where I had to say my part and 'hand it over' to the speaker, and they did likewise.Â
What other issues or ideas to deal with them have you had?
Ooo. Great one. On some platforms, I find that the voice over IP thing isn't as great as it could be. I've lost sound to people/from people online many a times....
At which point, you advise they call in....
And everything seems to work!
Sometimes, you just can't beat the phone!
One thing I have noticed is when you open the mic for an attendee and they are very quiet. This can sometimes be because of the mic or they are in an open office and whispering.
When I am producing I have a killer set of headphones that make me look like a pilot or something.... But they are very good quality, so good that I have my audio on about 10%
It has a volume wheel on the ear, when an attendee starts speaking I can very quickly up my sound 5-6 times and hear what they are saying, I then either repeat it or post a summary in the chat window.
Forgetting to turn it down when Jo starts speaking and getting an explosion of sound in my ear is an issue though :(

Also, your pic brings up a great point too. Your picture shows the microphone on your headset in the up position. Whilst I know that you have a desktop microphone, many people don't, and then we can't hear what they say. So one of the things I often ask is, "Do you have a headset microphone, have you moved it away from your mouth?" Then people realise, put it back and we can magically hear them again :D
