Editing recorded webinars

Hi all!

I have been asked a few times recently how I have edited some of our recorded webinars, making highlight reels or short videos for YouTube.

We mainly use Adobe Connect and record each of our sessions using the in built Adobe recording software, we do this for nearly all our sessions whether it is a webinar or virtual classroom.

With the recording I can then import it into Adobe Premier Pro to edit the video. I use Premier Pro now but up to last year was using a free bit of software called 'Hitfilm Express', I will add more comments about it below and a review.

Once I have the recording in Premier Pro or your video editing software of choice, I can cut sections, shorten other areas and change a whole host of other items. In a 60 minute webinar there can often be bits that can be taken out to from a video so that it flows far smoother and is easier to watch afterwards.

In many bits of software you can try and improve the audio on sections or sometimes just simply make it louder, I often do this on webinars where Jo has guest speakers or attendees get involved.

Cutting sections, syncing others up with transitions and improving audio quality are some basic skills that can quickly improve a recording of a live event and it does not take a huge amount of time or money to get to grips with.

Here is a review for Hitfilm Express, I used it for about 18 months before getting Premier Pro, it has some great features in the free software option but it can be hard to get to grips with! - https://www.techradar.com/reviews/hitfilm-express

  • Thanks for sharing, Mike.

It's always great to hear other people experiences of using different software, especially when you're new to editing your webinar recordings!

It would be great to know what software other community members are using and why they prefer it to other alternatives. Feel free to share your experiences or even a link to a review of a product you like.

  • Thanks Mike, people can see some examples of your good editing work on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSUOzXZccFnvCj-D7KWU7pw/videos

I thought about this post as I edited an Adobe Connect video today. A lot of the software platforms allow for editing within them, some don't. I don't usually edit them as I like them to be natural. However this was a specifically different project and needed it!
